Clockwork Fuschia

In the spirit of the previous post, I feel the need to comment authoritatively on something I'm in no way qualified to address: I think it's fucking ridiculous that more outrage hasn't been forthcoming about United Airlines scrapping their pension system in their vague effort to stay afloat for a few more months. Let the fucker fail. I think it's ridiculous that we're allowing the taxpayers to prop up a failing airline -- it's not like they're the 'national' airline and it would cripple transportation in this country if they failed. There are easily a dozen 'major' airlines in this country and dozens of other regional carriers that would be happy to pick up the slack, get some jets on the cheap, pick up a few more routes that were unavailable before, etc. Besides, United is way too expensive. I'm sick and tired of bailouts favoring the few in charge and screwing the few thousand who do the work. Power to the people!

And speaking of the few thousands who do the work, I've just passed 8 years in my current job (well, i've changed jobs/titles a few times, but all for the same employer). That's easily three times longer than any other job I've ever had, and while it's still a comfy job, it's getting to the point where I'm no longer excited about it and really not feeling like I'm accomplishing anything. For those of you not 'in the know' my job stayed the same after the last election, but my bosses all changed, and for the most part, they're young, cocky, intelligent but stupid. I have no problem working for people younger than me, but there's an institutional knowledge base that can be utilized but is blatently ignored. It's much like the new kids coming into the auto plant and starting with "You know, this wheel has worked well for a while, but we want to try something different." I'm all for change; change is good; but not change just for the sake of change. That's just stupid. Maybe it's just a bad week.

You're extremely lucky if you've had a job that you love and loves you back up to this point. I've had my dream job and it treated me like shit. A job is a means to an end, earning money to make your personal life more fun.
