A Power So Awesome
Upon the the Sabbath's eve, I bore witness to a power the likes of which I had never before seen, a power I did not know to exist. The power of go-go.
Oh, I had heard go-go, listened to it at some length even. But never did I witness what it could do before Saturday night.
Jeff was playing up on the roof at Five, the first time anyone had heard him spin out in like two years. (Needless to say, some people were a bit nervous about that.) And as usual, he played well, he even brung it, you might say. Dude, he played "I Was Made For Loving You" by Kiss and people went nuts.
But not nuts like what would happen about 20 minutes later. Motherfucker dropped the go-go, and people dropped decorum like beads at Mardi Gras.
Everyone started dancing, even the too-cool-for-standing folks sitting around the perimeter. Right in front of me, three very well dressed women (dressed to the 18s) who until that point had been posing, sipping drinks and taking calls on their cellies lost they goddam minds.
Arms went up, everything started bouncing. The one in a long skirt with high side slits, bounced her ass off the floor, I swear to god. No indication that she could bend down that low, or that fast, but BAM! booty bounce off the floor.
Her friend danced her way back from the bar with two more beers, a Corona plugged up with each index finger, shaking them like maracas over her head across the dance floor.
Jason tapped me on the arm and pointed to our left. Big dude was dancing with his lady friend, dancing behind her, crotch to ass. His arms were up and forward, encircling her.
His hands weren't doing the usual when dancing like that, no pointing, no waving, not holding a drink. Oh, his hands weren't empty. I'm not saying that at all.
His lady friend was also a bigger woman. And he was demonstrating an appreciation for the big girls. Rather, the big girls' big girls. Subtlety was out, full-on grope was in.
Gigidy, gigidy, all right.
God bless America, and God bless go-go. If he were real, he'd lock it himself.
