1st Presidential Debate
So I'm masturbating while I'm watching the debate and they keep switching back to that Lehrer guy... just messes with my rhythm.
But in other news, how do you figure out who wins in a debate? Obviously competitive debate scoring can't be used, since they invent a new debate format every time they have one. People who support one candidate over another will obviously claim victory for their favorite... not necessarily being dishonest, but because they only hear what they want to hear to reinforce their preconceived notions. What that leaves is the undecided voters -- like we care about what they think -- and people who know what the right thing to do is, will probably vote the right way in the end, but will cynically believe that that vote will be for naught, and work to fulfill that prophesy by blathering on about this and that trying to convince people that the result is predetermined.

It's easy to be the Monday morning QB, and decide what would have worked better, it's a lot harder to lead the team on the field.

Give 'em an issue, arguments, counters, rebuttals and question answer. Odd number of judges, allow heckling (watch them stack the audience with partisan stand-up comics) and score them. With points.

May I just add that new voter registration is up something like 250 percent for the DEMs (only 20 percent for GOP), and this number is not reflected is these here polls. The most accurate pollster, in my opinion, is Zogby...

Anyway, quick note before tonight's debate that I probably won't see for a couple days... It changes frequently, but at this moment in time, according to the Schmoo's favorite source, Kerry's winning... and without Florida or the split electoral votes that will probably come out of Colorado.

Second debate definitely a draw; VP debate won pretty handily by Dick Cheney (baldly lying, maybe, but he's so damn confident when he does it ...), still haven't seen enough of last night's to judge. (DVR'd it.)
