GOP spelled backwards is POG
So I'm off to the great state of Mississippi for a long weekend of ill-informed political banter from my in-laws, some casino action (white-trash style), and an "oh, by the way, you're going to be grandparents."
Should be fun.
So anyway, as I prepare to go through my annual motions trying to convince my mother-in-law that she is not, as she believes, a Republican, I was thinking of writing a short essay on the subject in this space. Basically, she's pro-choice, they have money but give to charity, they hate hunters/gun nuts, love the furry creatures, etc. There are definitely some Republican aspects to their beliefs, but on average and much to their dismay and denial, they are Democrats.
Anyway, I was thinking of doing something, but it turns out Michael Moore did it for me.
I know some of you have a snooty aversion to that particular publication, but they do alright on occasion.

And America knows it.

...and if you don't think democrats are fighters, spewing spit and vinegar, boldly attacking their enemies in public forums, then clearly you didn't see Zell's speech the other night.

It's the id, not the superego, that determines who runs the country. If and when the Democrats (other than Carville and Stephanapoulos) ever realize this, they've got a shot at retaking the White House and Congress. Until that happens, the Dems are doomed to failure, because they cannot see the forest for the trees.

A beutifully written piece on the subject by Garrison Keillor.

One other thing -- If Kerry is going to make any headway he needs to find a message and stick to it. The Dems used to be very good about staying on message and repeating the same things over and over and over until they actually believed what they were saying. Dems don't do this anymore which is why they haven't made much of a gain in the House or Senate -- much less the WH.
