Snapshots Part II

Regulation and injury time ends, the Nottingham fans have moved behind the net for the shootout. D.C. United are much slower on the move (didja notice how quickly all the fat kids ran after the Got Milk T-shirt shooters after half-time? Granted they were still about a section behind the T-shirt shooters and not catching up, but they were moving out.)

A dude that had been standing outside the stadium trying to sell a ticket wandered down the aisle between our rows. He didn't wander so much as walk with a purpose, but he was moving slowly, partly I think because he was looking to see what was going on, and partly because his feet hurt. He was wearing not a Barca jersey, but a Ravens one (I think, I only remember the back). He had his walkman headphones on under his ball cap, and a triple-bagged grocery bag not full of groceries over one elbow.

He was run down looking.

He was looking toward the shootout goal; that's where the most happening, with the cheering and singing and horns and drums. As he got the walk between the 100-level and 200-level seats he turned left, to where the largest United group of fans had been sitting, the guys with the jerseys, hats AND scarves on in July, the drums, the horns.

I stopped paying attention to him at this point, I don't remember why. Maybe the shootout started, the keepers walked out to hot around, a girl walked by, a butterfly flew past, I don't know.

But a couple of shots into the resolution, the guy walked past. This time he was carrying a couple trays of nachos, walking along the aisle, looking down at the mostly empty seats below.

Seemed as though he had done this walk before.
